OUR PURPOSE

The Fresno Hispanic Scholarship Fund was formed in 1988 to provide financial support to Hispanic students entering higher education institutions.

Due to the increased local need, the FHSF became an established non-profit organization to develop support from Valley resources. This effort has resulted in a successful campaign of generating scholarships for qualified students.

Recognizing that Hispanics are the nation's fastest growing population brings an understanding of the responsibility that we have as a community to prepare our future work force.

In this effort, we have also realized the tremendous potential that exists among our students and, therefore, reinforced our determination to become an active part in the building of our economic and social foundations.

Contributing to the Fresno Hispanic Scholarship Fund is an investment in the future of our communities. The students selected for these scholarships are among the most talented in the nation and represent true leadership.

OUR HISTORY

The Fresno Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Inc. (FHSF) was incorporated in 1989 as a non-profit charitable education corporation. Formerly known as the Fresno Friends of the National Hispanic Scholarship Fund (NHSF), FHSF was organized to financially assist and increase the participation of Chicano-Latino students attending California State University, Fresno and state center community College District.

To accomplish its mission, FHSF successfully functions through its Board of Directors which is composed of community leaders who have experience and expertise in various fields and professions. FHSF is not housed by an office nor does it enjoy the facilitation of administration staff. Board members dedicate time and talents to ensure scholarships are successfully raised through its fundraising efforts. This is an endeavor to improve the under representation of Chicano-Latinos in all educational disciplines and careers.
